Bio

Matija graduated from the University of Zagreb, Croatia in 2016. During his undergraduate and master’s degrees, he developed a strong interest in surgery. Matija volunteered at the Department for Surgery for nearly two years while balancing his student obligations. After graduation, Matija got a job as an assistant in the department.

After moving to the UK in 2018, Matija worked in a busy first opinion practice in the Midlands for nearly two years and got more surgical experience. In 2020, Matija started work as an ECC surgeon in a small animal hospital in Swindon, from which he appreciated that his everlasting passion was surgery. Matija’s passion led him to starting his career path to ECVS residency by accepting a position as a rotating intern at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists. Alongside his busy intern schedule, he also started a certificate in small animal surgery.

During his free time Matija can be found practising amateur photography whilst on walks with his partner, taking care of bonsai trees, and enjoying his 180L aquarium.
