Sepsis: a race for recognition and treatment

The lecture will highlight recent updates in the guidelines for recognizing and treating sepsis. I will cover the ‘new 3’, its role in diagnosing sepsis and how it relates to veterinary sepsis. The lecture will also focus on treatment strategies for sepsis patients with a focus on the importance of timely antibiotic administration, fluid resuscitation and source control.

High flow nasal oxygen

This lecture will cover recent advances in oxygen therapy in veterinary patients. The physiology of low flow oxygen systems (nasal oxygen and oxygen cage) will be discussed with a focus on their limitations in our patients. The mechanics of high flow nasal oxygen will be the focus of the lecture; introducing the mechanics of this technology, highlight recent clinical trials in veterinary patients and how it could be a valuable alternative to mechanical ventilation in patients with severe hypoxemia.

The evening is to take place at the Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE on September 20, 2018.

The event is free to all veterinary professionals, and CPD Certificates will be available. The evening commences at 7.15pm with an informal supper and refreshments, followed by the discussion at 7.30pm. The evening is expected to finish by 10:00pm.
